Medications are tools

Medicine is an amazing science that can heal many diseases, disorders, and injuries. The prescribing of medications is an important aspect of medicine. But do we need as many medications as we have? Medications are tools that help but do not necessarily heal. The current weight loss medications are an example of this. They will not “cure” weight problems, but they can help with food changes and we can help you use them successfully.

History

The history of medications, which started millennia ago as the creation of the town herbalist, apothecary, witch doctor, or healer, is a crucial part of our healthcare roots, connecting us to the evolution of medicine. What started as plants gathered from the woods or grown in the garden has evolved into the massive pharmaceutical corporations we know today.

Purpose of Medications as Tools

Medication is prescribed for hypertension. When you take it as prescribed, your blood pressure goes down. That does not mean it cured your hypertension; it is just controlling it. When you stop taking the medication, your blood pressure goes up again. Most medications are made to control a symptom, not to cure it. This is true for medicine for depression, anxiety, blood sugar, blood pressure, thyroid, and cholesterol, among others. If you take the medicine, your condition is controlled. When you stop, the condition gets out of control and problematic again.

Tools to Help

Since medication helps control conditions, it is a tool. Like a power drill helps you put a screw into wood, or a washing machine cleans your clothes. They are tools to help take care of some tasks. Some medications cure, like antibiotics for infections and cancer drugs, but the majority are just tools.

Fix a Condition So We Do Not Need a Tool

If medications do not cure all these conditions, is there a way to fix them so we can take less medication? Glad you asked! Yes, there is a way to fix some of them or at least decrease the medication needed. What we eat causes or worsens about 90% of the medical conditions and issues people deal with daily. What we put into our bodies worsens our cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar. Joint pain occurs when we give our body food that increases inflammation. What we eat alters our metabolism, which causes our hormones to be imbalanced, and leads to our brain chemicals becoming imbalanced. Now, we have depression, anxiety, and we are irritated with everything. What we fuel our body with determines how we feel overall. When we give it the wrong fuel, we feel fatigue, discomfort, and overall bad.

Food Changes Are Not Complicated

We all love food. There is a way to enjoy the food we love but still lose and maintain a healthy weight. Medications can help, but they only work with food changes. There is a way to get to the weight you want that is easy and fun, and you will not have to eat like a rabbit, I promise.
